Younger-Looking Skin Forever

by Sig October 24, 2011 17:18

Aging makes the skin sag but so does dehydration since it reduces the elastin in the dermis. So what should you do about it? First things first, you must hydrate but the question is, what if hydration is not enough?

Laser Skin Resurfacing

This is a suggested procedure that can bring out new skin to the surface through the use of laser technology. It gets rid of wrinkles and helps the skin to keep from sagging. One however must consult with a doctor regarding laser skin resurfacing.

Skin Relies On Water

Alright not just water, but the skin needs it to maintain its elasticity. The reduction of elastin in the skin is inevitable but one can slow down the aging process by taking antioxidants and polyphenols. As this part of the article reiterates though, you need more water. Although scientists haven’t found whether drinking a lot of water on a daily basis will improve the skin’s condition, one has to take into consideration that when you are healthy in the inside, the healthier your skin will be.

Anti-aging Chemicals

Vitamins C and A are the most common antioxidants one can find. You can also eat fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamins A and C.

Detox

Drinking lots of water will only replenish your body’s water needs but detoxifying will get rid of waste inside the body including toxins on the skin. This in effect will make your skin look better and more often than not, clearer and younger-looking.

Follow Marie Antoinette’s Advice

Remember polyphenols? Applying topical solutions with polyphenols will help slow down the aging process. According to certain accounts, Queen Marie Antoinette washed with red wine to prevent wrinkles from appearing.

How to fix a deep voice: Voicelift

by Catherine July 07, 2011 05:54

voicelift

What’s the latest thing to hit the plastic surgery scene to keep women appearing (or sounding) younger? A voicelift! Huh? That’s right, some women are having surgery to rejuvenate their vocal cords — ‘voicelifts’. Our vocal cords, or ‘vocal folds’ are part of the larynx, a structure made of muscle and cartilage located at the top of the trachea, or windpipe. We are born with our larynx high up in the throat, but the larynx gets progressively lower as we age, and, as this happens, our voices deepen.  Also influencing this change is the number of glands in our body decreases with age, including those around the larynx and vocal folds. Glands are where mucus is produced; when it decreases, this impacts on the voice and can make it sound crackly. Dr Epstein from The Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital in London says, ‘Male and female voices lower with age, and from about 65, the cartilage in the male larynx gets very thin and male voices become higher, reedy and tremulous. Women don’t  suffer in this way — our voices just get deeper.’

When undergoing a ‘voicelift’, fat is taken from the stomach and grafted on to the vocal folds to plump them up and enhance voice performance. It’s commonly used for cosmetic purposes and can cost up to $25,000, but is also used for those that are recovering from throat cancer.

How To Firm An Aging Neck

by Sig June 26, 2011 03:54

Aging gets us no matter what we do. We get wrinkles on our face and even have to deal with wrinkles on other parts of our bodies –which can be ratherannoying.

If you already start to have wrinkles on your neck, do not worry, there is a way for you to get younger skin back on that part of your body without having to spend a lot.

To firm an aging neck, you would need plain yoghurt. The keyword here is plain yoghurt not anything with flavor on or else you would smell like mangoes or strawberries or whatever the flavor of the yoghurt is.

Slather plain yoghurt on your neck and let is stay there for more than 30 minutes. You can do this overnight too if you can sleep with yoghurt on your neck. How does this work? Milk proteins does wonders to wrinkles and it will even out your skin and make it look younger.  Make sure that the yoghurt is cold too for better results.

It is also advised that you use milk soap on your neck. Doing this on a daily basis will definitely make your neck look younger and firmer.

Starting this regimen at an early age is also a good idea. If you are only 20 years old but do not want to age as fast as your peers, you can start doing the yoghurt regimen and use milk soap too. Bathing in water with milk is also a good idea if you have the budget to support this luxurious bath. In fact, soaking oneself in pure milk is a good idea but since most of us would rather drink milk instead of bathing with it, you can stick to milk soaves. Goat milk soaps are very good for the skin. They can be bought in your nearest grocery store.

How to get younger looking eyes

by Catherine June 01, 2011 07:48

younger-eyes

The first place on our face that shows our age is our eyes, directly underneath and the outer sides of the eyes to be exact. Bags and grey shadows can make a twenty year old look aged, but there are a few simple steps that can keep both crows feet and dark circles or bags at bay.

Sleep with an extra pillow so your head is slightly elevated to prevent fluid from settling under the skin around your eyes.

Find sunglasses labeled UV 400, and choose large frames for maximum coverage (you’re already using sunscreen, right?).

Every morning use an anti-oxidant eye cream to prevent damage from free radicals found in pollution and the sun’s rays. Some of the best ones prevent puffiness with Coffee Berry or green tea. Our choice: Elizabeth Arden Allergan Prevage Eye Anti-Aging Treatment.

Use Retinol at night if your skin can tolerate it. It's the one ingredient proven to stimulate collagen production and reduce wrinkles. The retinol eye creams that contain vitamin K work especially well on dark circles. Our choice: emergenC multi-vitamin + retinol serum.

Don’t over-do eye creams or moisturizers at night, they can make your eyes retain water and look even puffier in the morning.

In the morning apply a skin tightener for immediate results. Find one that contains argireline, GABA, or DMAE—the most effective ingredients. Our choice: Dr. Brandt Time Arrest Laser Tight

Fill in your crows feet with a primer containing silicone. Our choice: Jane Iredale Abscence Oil Control Primer

Use a creamy concealer to disguise dark circles. Pick a yellow based shade for light skin and a peachy shade for darker skin tones. Our choice: Jane Iredale Active Light Under Eye Concealer

Skip on shimmery make up or eye shadows. The metallic particles can get into the wrinkles and emphasize them. Instead choose a matte shade that is slightly darker than your skin and sweep it across the upper lids and along the lower lashes. It will make puffiness less obvious.

At home Chemical Peel

by Catherine April 04, 2011 07:38

 Skinceuticals-Retinol Priori-Brightening-Complex

I’m a big fan of chemical peels, because in my younger days I tanned every day it was warm even though I am light skinned and tend to freckle, and peels have drastically reduced that damage. However, regular peels can be expensive, so I have found a combination of products that work like a peel. I found a retinoid based cream or serum combined with a skin lightening treatment works exactly like regular peels, and essentially does the same thing, just in a more gradual process. It also lightens sun spots and freckles better than a peel.

Any retinoid based treatment will work, but I use Skinceuticals Retinol because it’s pure Retinol. After that dries I apply Priori Brightening Facial cream because it’s hydroquinone free and a gentle, lightweight cream that is designed specifically for reducing the appearance of uneven skin tones.

I have normal skin so I can tolerate pure retinol, but if you have sensitive skin, I suggest mixing the retinol with moisturizer cream and that will help. Make sure the moisturizer is just that and not another treatment.

Within a few weeks you will notice more even skin tone, smaller pores, diminished lines and faded sun spots and freckles.

You can find the Skincueticals Retinol and Priori Brightening cream, as well as other skin care brands AVAILABLE HERE

Sculptra – the Non-Filler Filler

by Catherine March 03, 2011 07:17

ba-sculptra

I don’t know about you, but I’m terrified to get fillers in my face. I have seen them make a person look totally different, and I have seen them make people look freakishly fake. But as I’m getting older the lines around my mouth are becoming more pronounced and I need to do something.

I was flipping through a fashion magazine and I came across an ad for a new filler, Sculptra. What I noticed about this filler is it’s not really a filler, it’s an injectable filler that stimulates collagen growth. Sculptra replaces lost volume by stimulating new collagen production rather than manually filling grooves and wrinkles. So it’s a more natural process that makes the results natural.

Sculptra works to replace lost collagen in a series of treatments administered by a physician. On average, three injection sessions are needed over a period of a few months, but the number of injection sessions and the number of injections per session vary from person to person. The first injection gives subtle results over time, and the results continue to improve with each injection and time. The slow formation of a more youthful look doesn’t “give you away”. The results last up to 2 years.

I have not tried it, but suffice to say, I’m going this route when it’s time (on the horizon).
