Most men shave their beards –this is a fact of life. Albeit
their shaving experience, they still get into shaving “accidents” i.e. wounding
certain areas they are shaving.
A good shave requires the best equipment one can find in the
market. Good equipment should be paired with proper preparation though and this
includes preparing the beard. Preparing the beard, you say? Hold your horses
gentlemen, we shall reveal the answer in a few moments since there is a need to
discuss other details first.
Blades. Stainless steel blades are very efficient but it is
always best to get a double-track blade. It does not really matter what brand
you get as long as they are stainless.
Shaving Cream. All types of shaving creams are good enough
whether they are in lather or gel form. If you have dry skin however, it would
be best to get a brushless shaving cream. One thing that you have to remember
is, you do not need to stick to one brand or kind of shaving cream. You can
always try different shaving creams and see which one is best for your skin.
Proper Preparation
Even if you have the best shaving cream in the world or the
world’s sharpest blades, if you do not prepare the areas that need to be shaved
–you will less likely have the perfect shave. Here is a step by step guide on
how to shave.
Wash your face. Do this at least twice to make sure that you
have removed all facial oils. Washing the face would soak the beard too making it
easier for you to shave them to the bud.
Shave AFTER taking a warm shower. Shaving before you shower will make shaving a more difficult task because you will never get a clean shave thanks to
your unsaturated beard. If the beard is not drenched in water, it will remain
“hard” and therefore harder to shave.
Leave cream on minutes before shaving. The main reason why there
is a need to use shaving cream when shaving is because you would want your
beard to absorb some moisture. If your beard get enough water or moisture, it
will expand making it easier for the blade to cut it to the bud. In fact, your facial will expand up to one thirds of its usual size so be sure to let your shaving cream sit on your face for a few minutes.
New blade. If you are using a new blade, it would be best to
start with your sideburns first to give the hair on your upper and lower lips
time to expand. Make sure that the upper
and lower lips are shaved last since these areas usually have the toughest hair
around.
