Bruising: Possible Causes and Treatments

by Sig January 30, 2012 21:26

A fresh bruise is usually painful and tender. More often than not, it is reddish and later on turns blue or dark purple. When bruises heal, they either turn yellow or green depending on the skin color of the person who has it. Bruises don’t look good but sometimes having them is inevitable especially if you are one who keeps on bumping into things. Mild trauma caused by bumping into a chair or a table can cause bruises. Extreme strain such as heavy exercise can also result to bruising due to microscopic tears underneath the skin specifically the blood vessels.

There are other causes of bruising though and if you are getting them without knowing how you got them, it would be best to get a blood test to see if there is something wrong. Bruising does not only involve trauma on the skin or the blood vessels but could also happen due to certain ailments. Those with bleeding disorders usually get inexplicable bruises. The elderly also suffer from getting them on a regular basis but it is usually not because of a sickness but because of the thinning of their skin.

Tired of having bruises? As long as you are not battered or get into fights often, bruises are natural especially those who get into unnoticed accidents.

There are natural cures for bruising and this includes applying Comfrey tea on the affected area. The usual ice pack will do the trick too especially if you are in pain because of a particular bruise. Putting an ice pack on will also reduce the inflammation. One should keep in mind however to not use an ice pack if the skin is broken because that is already a wound and needs to be treated differently.

24 hours after using an ice pack, you would need heating pads to improve the circulation of blood in that part of the body.

Stress and Skin Care, How To Cope

by Sig December 30, 2011 12:13

Stressed out? Although it is impossible to get rid of all your stressors, there is a way for you to steer clear from major stress.  Here are a few tips that will help you cope:

Spend some time with yourself. Make sure that you have at least an hour a day to yourself to reduce stress. Choose something that is not very demanding such as taking a bath or going for a long walk or just going to the spa to get a massage. You can read a book too if you fancy doing that just make sure that you take an hour a day for yourself.

Time management. Make sure that you manage your time. If you are trying to do too many things at a given timeframe it would be difficult for you to finish all of them so you would have to arrange your schedule wisely.

Avoid stressors. Alright, this is pretty difficult but if you are stressed out by certain things such as by a person in your office, it would be best not to spend a lot of time with that person. If you get so stressed because of traffic, be sure to manage your time ad not get out of the house when lots of people are also on their way to somewhere. Surely you will know the peak and non-peak hours for people to go out.

Prevention rather than cure. This is the same as avoiding your stressors but in a more general sense. At work for example, it is advised that you do not take on more than you could do or else you will be stressed out. Having some down time is essential as already mentioned above but we are repeating this so you remember that your body is not a machine.

If you are always stressed out, it will reflect on your skin so be sure to take good care of yourself.

Excessive Sweating Causes Irritation On The Skin

by Sig October 18, 2011 16:36

Sweating is a normal bodily function but what if you sweat too much?

What is normal?

We all sweat –that is normal and this happens when we are in a rather warm environment or when we are exercising. We also sweat when we are under psychological or physical stress. According to David Pariser, MD a professor in the Dermatology Department at the Eastern Virginia Medical School in Virginia, we have about 2 to 4 million sweat glands on the forehead, hands, underarms, face and feet.

Why do some of us sweat more than others?

Some people sweat 4 times more than usual even if in a cool environment. Researchers have not yet seen what causes it but medical professionals think that it has something to do with the connection between the sweat glands and the brain.  This is also genetic since sweating too much also called Hyperhidrosis ru in families.

Treating Excessive Sweating

Talk to a doctor about your problem. More often than not, he or she will give you prescription strength deodorant. Botox injections on certain parts of the skin will also work but of course, you would need to ask your doctor about it if it is a good solution for you.

For more tips, you may want to take a look at Perspire Much? Another article dedicated to excessive sweating and possible solutions.

The Right Antiperspirant

Choosing the right antiperspirant for those with sensitive skin can be difficult but here are a few tips you might want to keep in mind. Look for a deodorant that effectively stops sweat and prevents odor. Do not worry if you haven’t found the right one, you will soon as long as you take a look at the active ingredients of the deodorants available in the market. Deodorants with alcohol content are great to keep you dy but if you have sensitive skin it would be best to use a stick instead of a roll on. Finding a deodorant without fragrance is also ideal because perfumes mixed in deodorants can cause rashes.

Stress And Pimple Breakouts

by Sig September 02, 2011 16:11

Is stress giving you pimples? It may be hard to tell you not to worry because you are already worried about a lot of things. Whatever they may be, do remember that stress makes your skin look ugly. This is not a scare tactic for you to buy skin products or introduce a new nightly regimen which eventually you will forget about after a few months but a way to stress out that stress has certain effects on the skin.

Prevention is better than cure they say and in this case, we must prevent stress to prevent pimple flare ups. So how does one prevent stress? Certainly it is not impossible to do that. For one there are certain medications that prevents one from getting too stressed out –not the anxiety disorder type of medication though just anti-stress tablets. If you type anti-stress medication, a lot of brands will come up. Although these are usually sold over the counter, it would still be best to consult your physician about it to make sure that you are not allergic to the ingredients of the drug and also make sure that it will not react to the other medications you take.

Another choice is of course to not worry at all –this is difficult to do though but try not to stress yourself out too much because it will reflect on your general health and on your skin.

Pamper yourself too. A little time at the spa or just a simple massage from your favorite massage parlor will do you a lot of good. The more you pamper yourself –the less stressed you’d feel.

It is advisable to exercise frequently because exercise does not only stimulate better blood circulation and improve your general health your skin will look much better too. Exercise will also help you deal with daily stress.
