Allergan Inc, the maker of Botox, said last Friday that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved its eyelash-thickening drug Latisse. This drug is designed to treat a condition known as hypotrichosis of the eyelashes, which means a person does not have enough eyelashes. Allergan's other drug Lumigan uses the active ingredient bimatroprost and patients taking Lumigan found a side effect of the drug to be eyelash growth, prompting Allergan to study it for the new use.
Latisse is the first and only science-based treatment approved by the FDA to enhance eyelash prominence as measured by increases in length, thickness and darkness of eyelashes. Latisse is a once-daily prescription treatment that is applied to the base of the upper eyelash with a sterile, single-use-per-eye disposable applicator. Once treatment is stopped, eyelashes will gradually return to where they were prior to treatment.
This sounds to me a lot like RevitaLash, which works wonderfully. I will be curious to see if Latisse works better or will be less expensive than RevitaLash ($150), but based on the above before and after pictures, I think Latisse is going to blow RevitaLash away. That after shot is amazing! Latisse will be available in early 2009. I can't wait!
